It’s a confusing world and everyone’s using a different phrase to try and make their active cruise control systems stand out from their competition. So here is our guide (with links to the manufacturer’s’ web pages) on the various systems offered:
(Please Note: this is not intended as an exhaustive list of all the systems available, we have tried to include as many as we can).
Audi – Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go Function
The central element of the Audi driver assistance systems is the adaptive cruise control with stop & go function, an automatic distance control system. The system, which is available in a number of larger models, regulates the speed and the interval to the vehicle ahead by automatically accelerating and braking in a speed range of 0 to 250 km/h (0 – 155.34 mph).

BMW – Active Cruise Control
Driving on busy highways and freeways is more relaxing with Active Cruise Control. It maintains the desired speed when possible, while also keeping a pre-defined distance to any vehicles in the lane ahead.
Radar sensors at the front of the vehicle permanently scan the road ahead. As your BMW approaches a slower vehicle, Active Cruise Control automatically reduces power output from the engine and gently applies the brakes, holding your BMW at a pre-defined distance to the vehicle ahead.

Ford – Adaptive Cruise Control
Cruise control that can adapt automatically.
With Adaptive Cruise Control technology, you choose the speed you want to drive at and the system will maintain it. If the built-in RADAR sensor detects a vehicle ahead, it will slow the car to maintain a pre-set distance. Once the road in front is clear, the system will accelerate to your chosen speed.

Jaguar – Adaptive Cruise Control with Queue Assist
Adaptive Cruise Control uses radar technology to automatically adjust your speed to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead. If that vehicle slows, your Jaguar reduces its speed to maintain a safe distance. Your vehicle resumes its pre-set speed as soon as the road in front is clear. Should the car in front stop completely, the Queue Assist function brings your vehicle to a smooth halt. Once the traffic moves off, touch the accelerator and your vehicle will follow the car in front again.

Mazda – Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC)
Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) uses a millimeter wave radar to judge the relative speed and distance to the car ahead and automatically controls vehicle speed.
Working within a set speed range, MRCC automatically adjusts and maintains a safe following distance from the car in front, thus relieving some of the burden of the driver on long drives and on highways.
Also includes a Distance Recognition Support System (DRSS) that visually displays the following distance to help the driver maintain awareness of important safety consideration.

Mercedes – Distronic Plus Cruise Control
The innovative DISTRONIC PLUS assistance system automatically maintains a safe distance from the vehicle ahead by braking when necessary and accelerating again when the traffic conditions permit.
The integrated collision warning system can help to prevent rear-end collisions.

Toyota – Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC)
Making long highway drives easier and less tiring by maintaining a distance with the vehicle ahead
While staying within a preset speed range, the system maintains an appropriate distance between vehicles, helping make long highway drives less tiring. The system operates at all speeds, enabling to follow the vehicle ahead in low speed. This, in turn, helps reduce driver fatigue even in traffic congestion.

VOLVO – Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
The adaptive cruise control (ACC – Adaptive Cruise Control) helps the driver to maintain an even speed combined with a pre-selected time interval to the vehicle ahead.
The adaptive cruise control provides a more relaxing driving experience on long journeys on motorways and long straight main roads in smooth traffic flows.
The driver sets the desired speed and time interval to the car in front. When the radar detector detects a slower vehicle in front of the car, the speed is automatically adapted to that. When the road is clear again the car returns to the selected speed.

VW – Adaptive Cruise Control (safe-distance technology)
ACC adaptive cruise control helps to avoid accidents by always keeping your car at a safe distance from the traffic ahead.
Working together with the radar-controlled Front Assist traffic monitoring system, our adaptive cruise control system keeps you a safe distance from the vehicle in front and that makes driving much easier in slow and stop and go traffic. It means you’ll be more relaxed and comfortable on long journeys, knowing you have an extra helping hand.
